Club Organization and Social Activities

Club Service is the name used in Rotary for all the activities that make membership fun and help the club to run smoothly. Members can choose to help out or take part in any of the following areas:

Fellowship
One of the most popular parts of being a Rotarian, Fellowship is the term used for the wide range of social activities taking place throughout the year. Many committees plan and implement fun events ranging from holiday parties to golf and theater outings.

Book Club

Meeting monthly at a member's home and reading regularly in the interim, members of the Providence Rotary Book Club enjoy discussions about all kinds of literature. Members say the book club is all about the food and drink while discussing the book.

Rotary After Dark
Once a month, Rotarians and friends gather at a local watering hole for refreshments and purely social conversation. The committee picks the locations and organizes the events.

Bowling League
A decades-old tradition in Providence Rotary, the Bowling League attracts dozens of members and friends to weekly competition in the winter season.

Other Club Events: Trips to the Boston Pops, the Rhode Island Philharmonic Rush Hour, Barker Play House, a golf tournament or just a friendly round of chasing the ball.

Bylaws

Every organization needs them, and this committee keeps them up to date on a not too regular schedule.

Get Well and Sunshine

If a Rotarian or family member is ill or injured, cards, calls and all kinds of good wishes will appear thanks to the work of this committee.

Paul Harris Fellows

Named in honor of the founder of Rotary, the Paul Harris Fellowship is given in honor of service to the club or a financial donation. The committee selects those to be honored for service. Our club has about 50 Paul Harris Fellows.

Newsletter Reporters

Highlights of each meeting are reported in the weekly club newsletter. Members of this committee can be seen scribbling notes to get each detail down right.

Membership

This important committee is charged with finding and attracting men and women who will enjoy Rotary and make our club bigger and better. Our diverse club seeks to reflect the face of our community in our members, people who want to be engaged, who share their knowledge and skills, people who enjoy people and the activities of our club.

Program

This committee finds the speakers who keep us informed and entertained at lunch each week. Our speakers include public figures such as the governor, mayor and the police chief. Other speakers have high level positions in healthcare, education, the arts and the environment. The program is always timely, focusing on current events, as varied as wind energy, LNG tanks, military interrogation, Lyme disease, hunger and housing.

At election time we feature political debates by the candidates on important issues. Other speakers are entrepreneurs with a fascinating story to tell, inspirational business people and leaders in our community that educate us on important local and international events.

Every week is different. Our members leave the meetings inspired, knowledgeable and connected.

This committee makes sure new members learn the Rotary basics and get involved in activities that interest them.

Registration & Greeters

The first people you see when arriving for meetings, members of this committee keep the records and set the social tone.

The folks responsible for this website as well as our club's presence on Facebook.

Past Presidents' Council

The wisdom of our past leaders helps the club keep moving forward. There are at least 15 members in this esteemed group, very active and engaged.

New England Patriots, Providence Bruins and Pawtucket PawSox

Sports fans organize club events related to our local teams. We go to Gillette Stadium during an away game, sit in the club house, have a beer and enjoy the game. Coming up in October is a Bruins game at the Providence Civic Center that will be dedicated to fundraising for Rotary's worldwide effort to eradicate polio.

Visioning

This is the group that keeps us forward thinking. They look at the needs of the local and international communities and look to see how our club can help meet those needs.

Attendance
We don't adhere to strict attendance rules but we do expect members to be engaged, to attend meetings, events and fellowship opportunities to keep our club active and fun. Otherwise, why join Rotary?
